How to apply for a Reception place for September 2027
Parents who are seeking a Reception class place in September 2027 for a child born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, must apply online to Birmingham City Council Local Authority here Application Form.

School age - when can your child start school?
Reception is the first year of primary school. It comes after Nursery, but before Year 1.
Children in Birmingham can go to school (Reception) in the September after their 4th birthday.
Example
If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023, they'll be able to start school in September 2027.
When to apply
Parents can apply for a place in the Autumn of the year before their child turns 4 years of age. It’s important that you apply for a place as soon as possible:
- attendance at a nursery class doesn’t give a child automatic priority for a place
- don’t wait until your child is 5 years old, or your preferred school may already be full
You can list up to 3 preferred schools when you apply.

In-Year Admissions
If you wish your child to move to Hodge Hill Primary in the middle of a school year then you must contact the school office on 0121 464 2189 or via email at enquiry@hodgehill.create.org.uk
Secondary School Admissions (for Year 6 Pupils)
You must submit an online application form by 31 October 2026.
You will receive an email confirmation that you have submitted your application form. Please ensure to check your SPAM or Junk folder. It is important that you check your confirmation email to make sure everything is correct. You can amend your preferences right up to 11.59 pm on the closing date (31 October 2026). Waiting lists will be created three weeks following the offer of school places. Your child’s name will be automatically added to the waiting list for any higher preference schools than the one offered (unless your child did not achieve a high enough score in the grammar school selection test). Being on a waiting list does not mean that a place will become available.

Grammar School Admissions
Your child must sit a test before you can apply for a space at a grammar school.
Only children born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 can take the entrance test in 2027 for entry in September 2028.
