Reading

Each child, from Reception to Year 6, is expected to read at least 5 times a week.

Reception - Year 1

Children at the earliest stage of reading benefit hugely from re-reading books. These children will bring home a decodable book which they have already read at school. They should be able to read these books independently and will have these books at home over the weekend. Please listen to them read (the same book) each day. On Monday, these decodable books will be brought back into school and children will bring home a sharing book. This is a book which they have chosen themselves but one which they may not be able to read independently. Please read this book with the children throughout the week. This book should be returned on Thursday, when the children will again bring home a decodable book for the weekend.

Children will be expected to read their rocket words which they will bring home each week. There will be a weekly assessment to chec children's reading against these words which are aligned to the class schedule for phonics teaching and learning.

Year 2 - Year 6

Each child is expected to read at least 5 times a week for a minimum of 20 minutes. They will be able to choose their own book from the classroom library and will be expected to have their reading diary signed on each day that they read. Class teachers will track these diaries once per week. See .

Vocabulary - Year 2 - Year 6

Each half-term, class teachers have selected no more than 12 words which will be covered in class learning. Children will be expected to practise reading, spelling and using these words over a 5-weekly schedule.

Maths

Children from Y1 are expected to use Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) to refine and deepen their understanding of numbers.
